Falmouth has been used as a harbour for over 2,000 years and the docks have been an industrial hub since their creation in the mid 19th Century.
The harbour became internationally important during the era of the Post Office Packet Ships which were stationed in Falmouth from 1688-1851. The town became central to a new global network of communication and the docks were established in 1859. A rail link to London followed in 1863 transforming Falmouth into a modern port.
