HMS Seahawk - The History of RNAS Culdrose

When the Admiralty first surveyed land south of Helston in 1942, the life expectancy for a wartime airfield on the site was no more than 10 years. They could never have envisaged how RNAS Culdrose would develop and ultimately become the largest helicopter base in Great Britain. Join Geoff Wakeham as he recounts the fascinating history of Britain’s most southerly airfield.

Olympic Sailing 2012

Cornish Mining - A True World Heritage

From the 18th Century to the First World War metal production wrought great change both physically and culturally, to landscapes and communities. In this revealing presentation Ainsley Cocks discusses the on-going protection and promotion of Cornish mining heritage and the process of gaining UNESCO World Heritage Site status.

150 Years of Falmouth Docks

This year marks the 150th anniversary of the founding of Falmouth Docks. Join Falmouth’s senior pilot, David Barnicoat, as he explores the yard’s fascinating history; from the laying of the foundation stone in 1860 to the building of the Queen Elizabeth dry-dock in 1956; and right up to date with cruise ships and the Royal Fleet Auxiliary.

St Ives Luggers – Return of the Jumbo

The current St Ives Jumbo Project aims to create a racing class of the smallest & probably least known of the St Ives luggers. Even older St Ives people from fishing families have never heard of Jumbos! Join John McWilliams as he unearths their story, including the elephant connection, and puts them in the context of the once numerous St Ives lugger fleets.

Rowing the Atlantic

Inspired by real life stories of survival at sea, Penzance man Phil Pring yearned to experience the mid-Atlantic in a tiny vessel. Along with a friend, he embarked upon a two year project to build his own boat and compete in the 2009 Atlantic Rowing Race. Join Phil as he shares the story of his adventure and see the boat which ultimately became shipwrecked on an Antiguan reef.
