Visitors to Falmouth cannot fail to notice Pendennis Castle which sits in its prominent position on the headland, but how many of them are aware of the range of different things that the Castle has to offer?
The Castle had a good year last year and visitor numbers were up on the previous year. This year they are offering their best ever events programme. There will be Time Travellers Go events over the May half term and the summer holidays, as well as three jousts and three firepower events. To add to the offer, there will be more third party events including evening outdoor theatre and cinema events, both of which are new for 2011.
This year there will be a second holiday cottage available sleeping 4 people and the wedding and conference facilities offer a unique venue to anyone looking for something that little bit different.
Pendennis Castle, like other English Heritage sites, offers free education visits to schools. There are also Discovery Visits for school parties which attract a small charge. The Museum’s and the Castle’s education teams work together to offer a joint Tudor Worlds workshop. This is a very popular programme which is currently oversubscribed.
English Heritage has not escaped the cuts and has suffered a 32% cut to its budget. The Castle will experience operational changes and a management restructure but it has been identified as a key events site. This will raise its profile and bring benefits to Falmouth. We also hope that it will allow us to work more closely with the Castle in future years.
